Nest Boxes

 Perhaps the easiest and most important thing one can do to aid wildlife is to provide shelter. This is crucial for nesting and vital to some birds to have daily residence. Mallards are now preferring simple nesting tubes that only require chicken wire, straw, and a post. Purple Martins migrate all the way from Brazil each year to America to raise brood. It’s crucial that they have proper nesting and locations. Various species of owls use boxes daily for shelter. Wood ducks (as shy as they are) will seek out nesting boxes a year in advance. Something simple as a gourd provides a nest for swallows- the most underrated insect consumer. Building and preparing nesting boxes is very easy and can be a fun project on a rainy day to provide shelter for birds from the elements.
